the netherlands in 12 murders

2008 - 9 x 26 min.

Down-to earth, tolerant, modest and always hospitable to the stranger – those are characteristics the Dutch like to ascribe to themselves.

But in reality, the Dutch present as well as the past are teeming with patriotic intolerance, hysteria, religious narrow-mindedness and xenophobia.

In 'The Netherlands in 12 Murders', prominent historians Jan Blokker Sr., Jan Blokker Jr. and Bas Blokker analyze the celebrated Dutch identity, on the basis of twelve violent historic deaths.
